The National TV Company of Ukraine finds participation of Maruv in Eurovision risky for the state due to the political opinion of the singer, as 112.ua reported citing board member of the company Olexandra Koltsova.
“For the first time have we faced such worldview of the singer, who performs at an international level and wants to be associated with music, peace, freedom. Her (Maruv's, - 112.international) interpretation seemed, as for us, risky for the country,” Koltsova said.
Koltsova added that Eurovision participant would be obliged to constantly communicate on behalf of the whole country. Since society is divided, the political opinion of Maruv becomes risky for Ukraine.
“We had no time to convince some of the finalists and persuade him that the way he loves Ukraine is wrong and he should do it in such way. Our society is divided and we have no right to dictate to people how they should love the country,” Koltsova said.
She also stated that Maruv will not refuse from the concerts in Russia because according to her contract with Warner, she has to tour in the Russian Federation.
“The artist is not going to cancel the concerts in any country; she is a global performer, it is written in the conditions of her contract: concerts to take place everywhere, where Warner is present, Warner is present also in Russia. She does not see any obstacles to continue touring all over the world, she will have the tour in America,” Koltsova said.
As we reported, singer Anna Korsun (Maruv) would not present Ukraine at the song contest “Eurovision 2019”. Maruv said that she was forced to refuse from the participation in the contest from Ukraine due to her tour in Russia.
“I am ready to refuse from performances in Russia. I have answered all the questions the jury had on air. I have not visited Crimea since 2014. I have not violated any law of Ukraine. Besides, I am ready to assume all the costs related to participation in the international contest,” she stated.
Besides, STB Channel stated that the rules of the national selection for Eurovision do not contain demands on the absence of the tours in the Russian Federation. It also added that only the National Television Company of Ukraine can decide who will present Ukraine during the Eurovision.
On February 26, Freedom-jazz girls band, which got the second place in the national selection for Eurovision song contest, refused to participate in it. Later, Kazka band, which took the third place, also refused to present Ukraine at Eurovision.
On February 27, it was reported that Ukraine will not send its representative to Eurovision-2019, which to be held in Israel.
