Singer Anna Korsun (Maruv) will not present Ukraine at the song contest “Eurovision 2019,” despite the winning the final of the national selection, as National Television Company of Ukraine reported.

It is noted that the broadcaster and singer “did not come to the agreement for a number of reasons.”

It notes that the representative of Ukraine “becomes the cultural ambassador of Ukraine and brings not only his own music but also becomes the spokesman of the opinion of the Ukrainian society in the world.”

“After the held negotiations, the National Television Company of Ukraine and Maruv did not find the common solution on the mission of the representative of Ukraine at the international song contest,” the message said.

Besides, the National Television Company of Ukraine reminded that broadcaster-participant, according to the rules of the Eurovision, should provide the non-political nature of the competition.

“The situation, which arose the national selection this year, has the signs of the politicization. The public outcry, attempts of the pressure from the side of the political forces, interference in the discussion of the cultural figures and information structures of the aggressor country led to the politicization of the results of the national selection.  The national broadcasted also sees the danger of the escalation of the division of the Ukrainian society that contradicts the tasks of the National Broadcaster (according to the Law of Ukraine on Public Broadcasting, one of the main tasks of the National Television Company of Ukraine is the assistance to the consolidation of the Ukrainian society,” the broadcaster explained.

Earlier Maruv said that she was forced to refuse from the participation in the contest from Ukraine due to her tour in Russia.

“I am ready to refuse from performances in Russia. I have answered all the questions the jury had on air. I have not visited Crimea since 2014. I have not violated any law of Ukraine. Besides, I am ready to assume all the costs related to participation in the international contest,” she stated.

Maruv won at the Ukrainian national selection for Eurovision and should perform with Siren Song in the first semi-final of the Eurovision, which will take place on May 14. Her performance was planned for the second half of the show.
