The court denied releasing former campaign chairman for President Trump Paul Manafort and his business partner Rick Gates from house arrest. Amy Berman Jackson, the judge claimed this as The Washington Post reported.
The judge noted that she is intent to release the suspects from the house arrest but she also considers the possibility to order the men to withhold from the using of the transport vehicles, to observe the curfew and to stay under the electronic GPS-monitoring.
Jackson also claimed that she will not make a decision on the bail for both suspects until she gets more information on their financial status. The judge added that she will not allow Manafort and Gates to leave the country under any agreements.
Both Manafort and Gates pleaded not guilty in 12-points accusations and they were placed under the house arrest due to the apprehension that they can leave the country. The main points are money laundering, the acting as the unregistered agents of the former government of Ukraine that was connected with Russia. Particularly, he worked with the Party of Regions and former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych. Manafort and his partner Gates earned dozens of millions of dollars and hid this money from the US authorities.
The Prosecutor General's Office investigates two cases with the involvement of Paul Manafort. The first one is about the embezzlement of the funds of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and second concerns the materials on the black ledger.
