A man who was bitten by a homeless dog in the Mykolaiv region died from a severe form of rabies. The press service of the regional healthcare department reported this.

It is known that the 31-year-old man was bitten by the animal in August 2019 and was hospitalized on January 11 this year with signs of hydro- and aerophobia.

According to the order of the Health Department of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, the check of the provision of relevant medical care to the patient was carried out. The quality anti-rabies aid to the population of the region was also checked.

The situation is under constant control of Mykolayiv Regional State Administration and the regional department of healthcare.

As you know, rabies is an infectious viral disease that results in death in almost 100% of cases. Animals do not survive after being infected with rabies, and humans can be cured with a special vaccine, but only if it is injected in time. In 99% of the cases, dogs spread the disease.

There were 447 cases of rabies infection in Ukraine in the first half of 2019, which is 505 cases less than in the same period of 2018.
