The main task of Naftogaz for 2018 is to stop the Nord Stream 2 project, as Andriy Kobolev, head of Naftogaz, told Channel 5 on air.
“Truly, this gas line is a big risk. Its construction will fundamentally undermine the economy of the whole country. We think that this construction is partly a military project, as the aim of Mr. Putin is to take the transit of the Russian gas away from the territory of Ukraine to open a road to full military aggression. This is why stopping this project, lobbying the interests of Ukraine against this project is one of the main tasks of Naftogaz for the next year, and the next year is decisive,” he said.
According to Kobolev, the most effective step Ukraine can take to stop the construction of the Nord Stream 2 is to attract a foreign partner into the leadership of the company.
“The Ukrainian law puts some specific demands as to this partner. It must be a European or American company that has certification with a Third Energy Package and can come and manage the Ukrainian gas transmission system with us,” he said
