Newly-elected President of Moldova Maia Sandu will visit Ukraine. The visit will take place in January 2021 as Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba reported on Twitter.
“Pleased to meet with Moldova’s President-elect Maia Sandu. Looking forward to her visit to Ukraine in January 2021 to open a new successful chapter of Ukraine-Moldova relations as we continue to move together towards EU membership.” the message said.
On November 16, Maia Sandu won the presidential elections in Moldova. Previously, she served as the Prime minister of the country. She gained 57.75% of votes in the second leg. Her inauguration is planned for December 24.
As we reported, Maia Sandu said that she intended to improve relations with Ukraine. She explained that there were a number of reasons to improve relations between the two countries: first, neighboring countries, second, both countries needed active work on rapprochement with the European Union, and third, there was the issue of "bilateral agenda." While answering questions about Crimea, the Moldovan leader called it Ukrainian territory.
