Today, January 23, during an extraordinary meeting of the city commission on technogenic and ecological safety and emergencies, it was decided to re-apply to the regional and the State Commission on Emergency Situations and fuel-energy balance due to the critical situation with waste disposal in Lviv. City will appeal to the government to eliminate the critical situation at the site, as well as addressing a petition to secure enhanced patrol at the site to prevent any provocations. It was reported by the press service of the city mayor Andriy Sadovyi.
As it is known, on May 30, landslide of garbage occurred at Hrybovychi dump near Lviv during fire-fighting. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi turned for help to his Kyiv counterpart Vitaly Klitschko. Kyiv mayor decided to burn part of the Lviv garbage by the "Energy" plant in the capital. The mayor said that the burning of the garbage in the city does not have a negative impact on the ecological situation in Kyiv. On August 1, Kyiv stopped taking garbage from Lviv in connection with the start of the planned repair work on the incineration plant "Energy".
It should be noted that due to the overcrowding of Lviv dumping sites, the city even decided to create operational headquarters to solve issues with garbage disposal.
Lviv mayor added that authorities know that landfills, which earlier took garbage from the city, are still being blocked. One third of the sites for waste collection in Lviv are overflowing, according to Sadovyi.
As it was previously reported, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi is outraged with government inaction in the situation with the garbage disposal, he criticized the Cabinet and regional authorities, because they are not able to convene a commission for emergency situations for a week.
