The killer of ex-State Duma MP Denis Voronenkov was visiting occupied Donetsk in March. This was reported by Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko in an interview to German Bild agency.
"The killer was following the victim more than 1 kilometer, then he shot him… Earlier he was serving in National Guard of Ukraine’s Internal Ministry. Murderer remained in the occupied territory on March 6, in Donetsk city to be exact. This gave me and the president grounds to suspect Russia. National Guard officers, including the former ones, are prohibited to stay in this region," Prosecutor General noted.
According to Lutsenko, law enforcers have searched the apartment where murderer stopped with two other persons. But Lutsenko said that he cannot reveal the details in the interests of the ongoing investigation.
As it was reported earlier, ex-State Duma MP Voronenkov was shot in Kyiv downtown.
It also became known that Voronenkov's killer is citizen of Ukraine. The killer died in the hospital in Kyiv. He got two wounds in the chest and one shot in the head.
Denis Voronenkov and llya Ponomarev, former MPs of the Russian State Duma, are the witnesses in treason case against fugitive Victor Yanukovych. According to the Prosecutor General Office, the law allows to add Voronenkov’s testimony on written record on the stage of the court investigation.
Law enforcers say it’s a contract murder. “This is the first version we consider, knowing who the victim is and his activity and the way a crime was committed.”
