Russia’s recognition of passports issued by "LPR/DPR" is a way to conflict freeze similar to Transnistria example. Such opinion was expressed by Leonid Kuchma, the Ukrainian representative in Trilateral Contact Group to resolve situation in Donbas and the second president of Ukraine, according to Interfax Ukraine.

"I think Russia has long ago taken the decision to create the conflict in the post-soviet area, similar to the one in Transnistria, frozen conflict. "Passport situation" is a step in this direction," Kuchma said.

He reminded that Ukraine is firmly maintaining its position: security issues must be resolved in the first place, then all the political problems.

"Russia sees it in another way, Europe is just looking for now," Kuchma noted.

According to him, Russia has gone through the tough period of sanctions and managed to find "paths" needed for Russian market.
