"LNR" and "DNR" residents lose Ukrainian citizenship if they get Russian passports

If the residents of the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics receive Russian passports, they will lose Ukrainian citizenship right away, as Deputy Minister of Temporarily Occupied Territories and IDPs Yuriy Grymchak said, Obozreval reported.

“We can test it or we can officially state that in compliance with our legislation a person might lose Ukrainian citizenship. The lists of those who got Russian citizenship will be revealed and published. Therefore, every Ukrainian citizen who receives Russian passport will lose the Ukrainian one,” the message reads.

Grymchak noted that issuance of the Russian passports might be a reason for future deployment of troops of Russia on the occupied territory.

“There is a possibility that they will point at their resident there, they will protect them and deploy their troops,” the Deputy Minister added.

As it was reported, Russia intends to allow citizens of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic and Luhansk People’s Republic to get citizenship of the Russian Federation in a simpler way.
