Leakage of Ukrainians’ personal data in Telegram-channel: 25 suspicions declared, one person detained

The criminal activity of 25 people has already been confirmed in the leak of personal information of citizens from the anonymous Telegram-channel. One man was detained. Deputy Interior Minister Serhiy Honcharov announced this at a briefing in Ukrinform.

“Over the past month and a half, large-scale work has been carried out involving 400 representatives of the National Police. Law enforcers of the National Police conducted a large number of searches, 36 searches. The criminal activity of 25 people was confirmed. Suspicion was announced accordingly and one man was detained. As a result of this operation, copies of 30 databases were confiscated, and it is not only state registers,” Honcharov said.

It should be noted that earlier one of the Ukrainian agencies shared information that it is possible to buy databases with personal data of Ukrainians in Telegram.

Later, the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov stated that Telegram bot, which trades personal data of Ukrainians, is not related to the Diya application.

Subsequently, the Main Investigation Department of the National Police launched an investigation into the fact of leakage of personal data of Ukrainians in the Telegram-channel under the article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for unauthorized interference in the work of computers, automated systems, computer networks or telecommunications networks, which led to leakage, loss, forgery, blocking of information, distortion of the information processing or to violation of its established routing order.
