The law on the sanctions for the MPs for truancy #196-IX has come into force in Ukraine.

The law cancels the written records of the lawmakers, only the electronic registration remains. It takes place at the beginning of the session by pushing the button ‘for’. If the MP is late for the registration but he/she will vote for the draft laws it will treated as the presence.

If during a month the MP skips over 30% of voting without valid reasons or over 50% of the sessions of his/her committee, the lawmaker will not get the reimburse of the expenses tied with the performance of duties in that month. The proper order will be issued by the head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the basis of the decision of the regulation committee.

Moreover, the MP will get the wage only if he/she participated in at least 70% of the voting in the parliament. The number of votings will be considered by the electronic system and the information in percentage points will be published on the page of the lawmaker on the parliament’s website.

On October 16, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the bill, which deprives the MP of the salary for ignoring more than 30% of the parliament's votings and also abolishes the reimbursement of expenses for parliamentary activities in case of absenteeism.

As we reported Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada supported bill No. 2148, which provides for the introduction of fines for non-personal voting by members of the Ukrainian Parliament.
