A law on the equal rights of women and men in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations enters into force in Ukraine.
Earlier, the charter of the authority read that female soldiers, as a rule, are not appointed to the daily details. The officially published document sets new rules, according to which the military personnel is appointed to the daily details in compliance with the legislation on the protection of motherhood and childhood.
This wording was explained by compliance with Art. 24 of the Constitution, according to which equality of rights of women and men is ensured, in particular, with the creation of conditions that allow combining work with motherhood, as well as providing paid holidays and other benefits to pregnant women and mothers.
A norm was introduced in the law on military service, according to which women perform military duties on an equal basis with men (except for cases stipulated by the legislation on the protection of motherhood and childhood, as well as the prohibition of discrimination on the basis of sex), which includes contractual acceptance and military conscription, performance of active service, military service in the reserve and compliance with military registration rules.
The law lifts the mentions about the limitation of service age for women up to 40 years - both by conscription and by contract.
Earlier, the enlisted servicewomen were enrolled in the second category reserve without taking into account the military ranks they were assigned; as a result, all women were retired at the same age. In addition, the age limit for women in the reserve is 50 years, and for men is 65 years. This is why the women were deprived of the possibility of getting a military rank and receiving a potentially higher pension in the future. The law lifts the relevant restriction for women.
