Law on admission of foreign military in Ukraine comes into force

The law on the admission of foreign military in Ukraine for drills No. 2687-VIII comes into force in Ukraine today, on March 12. The document was published in the parliamentary outlet Golos.

On March 6, the law was returned to the Parliament with the President’s signature. Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the draft law.

It says that it referred to the multinational drills on the preparation of the Armed Forces units, Ukrainian American drills Rapid Trident – 2019, Sea Breeze 2019, the Ukrainian Romanian drills Riverain-2019, multinational drills Maple Ark-2019 and Ukrainian British drills Warrior Watcher-2019.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a draft law on the admission of foreign military in Ukraine for drills.

The armed forces of the following states are allowed to enter Ukraine in 2019 to participate in the international drills:

- the U.S., other NATO member stated and participants of “Partnership for peace” program (some 3000 servicemen with arms and military equipment, up to six planes and helicopters) for up to 356 days in January – December 2019 within international drills;

- the U.S., other NATO member stated and participants of “Partnership for peace” program (some 2000 servicemen with arms and military equipment, up to 13 planes and helicopters) for 25 days in June - October 2019 within Ukrainian-American drills Rapid Trident – 2019.

- the U.S., other NATO member stated and participants of “Partnership for peace” program (some 2000 servicemen with arms and military equipment, up to 15 vessels, two submarines, 16 planes and helicopters, up to 60 wheel equipment units) for 20 days in June – September 2019 within Ukrainian American drills Sea Breeze – 2019.

- Romania (up to 200 servicemen with arms and military equipment, some nine vessels, two planes) for ten days in April – November 2019 within Ukrainian Romanian drills Riverine – 2019.

- NATO member states and participants of “Partnership for peace” program (up to 300 servicemen with arms and military equipment) for 16 days in August – October 2019 within Ukrainian British drills Warrior Watcher – 2019.
