We need to wait until the end of quarantine and then hold a larger prisoner swap; however, the authority was striving for it and pressure to hold it now as President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reported.
“I understand that during the first exchange we returned 35 people, sailors but it was the first part of the exchange. The second stage was after the agreements in Normandy Format, 76 people. Today, we exchange 20 people. We can expect the end of quarantine to hold the larger swap later,” the president said.
Zelensky noted that the Ukrainian side was striving for holding of a large-scale exchange now, instead of expecting the end of quarantine.
“There are 20 people – let’s return 20. Tomorrow we will have another two – we will return two people. The day after there will be 100 people – we will return 100,” the president concluded.
Today, Ukraine and militants of occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions held the prisoner swap. 19 people had to be returned to Ukraine.
As we reported, militants of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic have handed over nine people to Ukraine as part of today's exchange near Horlivka and Mayorsk checkpoint.
Later, the Ukrainian side and the militants of the so-called Luhansk People’s Republic held the prisoner swap at ‘eleven for four’ formula.
