A large-scale forest fire began in Chornobyl exclusion zone. The fire is being extinguished with the help of aviation. This was reported by the State Emergency Service (SES).
“On April 4, at 13:22, the SES received information on a forest fire in the Zone of Exclusion near the village of Vladimirovka, Kotovsky Forestry. The fire claimed the area of 20 hectares. At 14:30 and 14:53, two An-32P planes departed from the town of Nizhyn to extinguish a fire in the exclusion zone. At 15:33 the MI-8 helicopter of the State Emergency Situations also flew to fight the fire," the report said.
In total, more than 90 firefighters and 18 units of equipment were involved in fighting the fire; that's 40 personnel and eight units of equipment from the SES.
Fire extinguishing is complicated by the increased radiation background in certain areas of combustion. There is no threat to human settlements.
