From January 16, 2021, only the Ukrainian language should be used in the consumer service sphere as Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language Taras Kremin reported on Facebook.

“According to Article 30 of the Law of Ukraine On provision of the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state one, all service providers, regardless the form of ownership, are obliged to serve the consumers and provide the information about goods and services at the state language,” Kremin underlined.

He specified that in January, the service should be provided in the Ukrainian language at the supermarkets, online stores, cafes, banks and gas stations, drug stores and libraries. The service might be provided in another language only at the request of the client. In case of the violation of the rights for the provision of the information and services in the Ukrainian language, Kremin asks people to appeal to him.

As we reported, the share of films shot in Ukrainian in film distribution in a year decreased from 30.9% (159) to 11.8% (34 films). According to the State Committee for Cinematography, the total number of films in distribution and the number of film copies shot, dubbed, subtitled in Ukrainian in 2019 was 523, and in 2020, as of October 1, - 286.
