The Guardian newspaper has also updated its style guide adding the Ukrainian capital’s name Kyiv as the correct spelling. And Press Officer of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, David Stulik told in Facebook that the European Union’s diplomatic service (European External Action Service, EEAS) has finally changed Kiev to Kyiv in its email addresses.
Earlier, it was reported that the international airports of Batumi and Tbilisi (Georgia) changed the way they spell the Ukrainian cities. From now on, they are using the correct one: Kyiv instead of Kiev, Lviv and Odesa instead of Lvov and Odessa, respectively.
Previously, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister launched the media campaign #CorrectUA to urge the world to use “Kyiv” instead of “Kiev”. The Ukrainian authorities also suggest that international media use purely Ukrainian spelling for such cities as Kharkiv, Odesa, Mykolaiv, and others, as well as 'Ukraine instead of the widespread mistake, 'the Ukraine'.
