The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal instructed the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy to consider transferring the St. Nicholas Cathedral in Kyiv to the Roman Catholic community. He stated this during today's press conference.
"It was my comprehensive assignment, and there was, among other measures, a clause instructing the Minister of Culture to work on the possibility of transferring the church to the Roman Catholic community," Shmygal said.
The Prime Minister noted that this issue will be discussed, as well as the issue of further complex restoration of the church.
At the same time, the Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko stated on air of 24 Ukraine TV channel that philanthropists have already transferred over 560 thousand for the restoration works.
"First of all, we are very grateful to those who have responded in order to raise funds for the restoration. But I would like to emphasize with all due respect to the efforts of those people who have already transferred about 15 million hryvnias for emergency work in the church that the majority of funds will be provided by the state," the minister said.
