Kyiv City State Administration called on residents of the capital to stop driving private cars during snowfalls. This was reported by the press service of the administration.
"We urge drivers to refrain from using their own cars and give preference to public transport - according to weather forecasts, heavy snowfalls in Kyiv will last several days. Also, we kindly ask you not to leave your cars on a side of a road as it creates difficulties for cleaning machinery. Vehicles obstructing snow-removing machinery will be evacuated," the statement said.
At the same time, deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration Petro Panteleev on the air of 112 Ukraine said that at the moment it was impossible to actively remove snow due to a heavy traffic on the roads of the capital.
"The main snow cleaning work is carried out when it is possible to arrive at that place. Today we have already planned work for the night and the next morning. About 50 police patrols will be working to accompany the columns of the Daewoo cars that will clean the snow," Panteleev said.
As it was reported earlier a powerful snowstorm hit Ukrainian capital on Monday. The snowfall began in the early Monday morning; weather forecasters reported wind gusts up to 20 meters per second. According to preliminary reports, such weather will hold until Wednesday.
Due to that, Kyiv City State Administration decided to limit an entrance of large-size vehicles to the city roadways - to avoid gridlocks and road accident.
