Kyiv may enter the "orange" quarantine zone, but this will not happen in the near future. Such forecasts were voiced by the head of the central office of the State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service in Kyiv, Oleh Ruban, in a comment to the Segodnya website.
"Kyiv can enter the "orange" quarantine zone. There is a threat, but this will not happen in the near future. But to prevent the capital from falling into the "red" quarantine zone, only vaccination will help," Ruban said.
The head of the State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service cited leading European countries, including Great Britain, as an example. In these countries, according to Ruban, more than 70-80% of citizens are vaccinated, and they do not need to impose strict restrictions.
Meanwhile, US pharmaceutical companies Merck and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics have developed a drug that reduces the risk of hospitalization or death by around 50% for patients with mild or moderate cases of Covid-19.
The companies plan to seek emergency authorization for the antiviral Covid treatment after the medicine showed “compelling results” in clinical trials.
The drug, molnupiravir, is administered orally and works by inhibiting the replication of the coronavirus inside the body.
