Ukraine endorses the possible international commission in Kerch Strait but supposes it can be manipulated by Russia as 112 Ukraine reported citing Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin.
“If the international presence helps us there and they (the authority of the Russian Federation) will not manipulate it, we, certainly, welcomes it and it should be established,” Klimkin said, commenting information that Germany and France can become the guarantors of the navigation in Kerch Strait if Russia agrees on it.
He expressed the hope that German partners of Ukraine will have efficient negotiations with the Russian representatives.
“However, to be honest, I am sure that Russia will manipulate it. The aim of Russia is to destabilize Ukrainian Donbas and the best way is to do it from the south. It is clear politically, geopolitically and economically,” Klimkin noted.
According to him, the issue of the international control in Kerch Strait was discussed, particularly, with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.
“The issue is to set the international control. Not Russian but international control in Kerch Strait,” Klimkin emphasized.

On December 3, the Russian prosecutors officially accused Ukrainian sailors with the 'illegal crossing of the state border' during the attack in the Kerch Strait.
On December 26, Crimean Supreme Court left all Ukrainian sailors under arrest.
On January 16, Lefortovo court has extended the arrest period for all Ukrainian sailors who suffered the attack of the Russian Navy in the Kerch Strait in November.
Earlier Poltorak stated that Ukraine will continue carrying out passages through the Kerch Strait and sending vessels to Azov Sea ports despite the existing danger.
