The restoration of the tourism industry in Kyiv after the losses caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, according to experts, may take up to 2 years, and the restoration of the global tourism industry will take at least 5 years. This was announced by the deputy chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration Maryna Honda during an online meeting with representatives of the embassies of the Netherlands and Finland, the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration reported.
"During 2020, the smallest number of foreign tourists visited Kyiv in the last 10 years. But despite this, the capital of Ukraine remains a popular destination among foreigners," the official said.
She noted that after the easing of restrictions in the first half of the year, 276,000 tourists visited Kyiv, and in 9 months the receipts from the tourist tax amounted to almost 30 million, that is, the industry is promising even in a pandemic and brings funds to the budget.
“We started negotiations with the embassies of the Netherlands, Finland and other countries to launch these projects in the spring. First of all, they will be aimed at familiarizing foreign travel agencies and media representatives with Ukraine and Kyiv,” Maryna Honda said.
As we reported earlier, the number of foreign tourists that have entered Ukraine this year has almost decreased by four times due to the coronavirus pandemic - 2.7 million in the first nine months of 2020 against 10.7 million in the same period in 2019.
