Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko has met with President of the World Bank Group David Malpass who arrived in Ukraine. Mayors of Mariupol and Khmelnytskyi cities also participated in the meeting, as the press service of the mayor reports.
According to Klitschko, the meeting was about the importance of continuing the decentralization reform in Ukraine and strengthening the local government.
“We also discussed the next changes for financial sustainability of Ukrainian cities and towns and for other reforms we need. This includes creation of the municipal police. This also includes the influence of local authorities on, for example, the appointment of Heads of regions in the capital. In our country, the President appoints the governmor, and the Mayor cannot fire head of a region, not even reprimand him without the concurrence of the President!”, Klitschko emphasized.
Previously, Vitaliy Klitschko stated he would be running for the office again. According to the head of Kyiv City State Administration, his only reason to chair the office would be to finish what his team started.
