Kharkiv deadly car accident: suffered pregnant woman brought out of coma

Three victims of the car accident are still under medical treatment

The pregnant woman suffered in the deadly car accident in Kharkiv on October 18 was brought out of the medically induced coma as the press service of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration reported.

'Three victims of the car accident remain in the hospital. One of the two emergency aid patients was discharged from the hospital and she will continue the treatment on the outpatient basis. Two patients are under medical treatment in the regional clinical hospital. The state of the pregnant woman improved, she is conscious, she breathes on her own and tries to sit down. The woman was transferred from the resuscitation department to the gynecology. The unborn child also develops well', Halyna Siroshtan, the acting Head of Healthcare Department of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration reported.

The woman was 20 weeks pregnant at the moment of the car accident. According to the doctors, there was no threat to the unborn child. The woman was induced in the medical coma.

As we reported earlier a Lexus ran over a group of pedestrians in Kharkiv, northeastern Ukraine, on Wednesday evening.  Alyona Zaitseva who drove the Lexus violated the road traffic, crashing into Volkswagen Touareg driven by Gennady Dronov which threw her car towards the pavement. Both drivers survived, but Lexus ran over a group of eleven people. Five pedestrians received lethal injuries; another six were taken to a hospital with injuries of various degrees of severity.

Zaitseva was detained for two months without a right for bailment. The court revoked her driver’ license and arrested both cars that participated in the accident.

The prosecution stated that Zaitseva used opiates not long before the tragedy occurred. According to the information of the defense, the suspect took the sedatives.

The version of the Zaitseva defense is that the driver of the Touareg is guilty as he moved on the yellow traffic light. The defense of Gennady Dronov denies the accusation and claims that the driver of the Touareg moved on the green traffic light.

Dronov was the witness in this case but the police claimed that his status can change. Later, the court refused to recognize Dronov sustained. Gennady Dronov was served with charge papers on November 2.

The Court arrested Gennady Dronov for 42 days without the right to bail on November 8.
