The accused on the case of a fatal accident in Kharkiv, Olena Zaitseva did not have documents with her. This was confirmed by the inspector of the patrol police Yevhen Shestov, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

"When I asked for the driver's license, Zaitseva had no legal driving license or a registration certificate..She said first that it was in her bag, then it turned out that she had no bags with her, she showed me photos on the phone and said someone would bring them, "Shestov said during the trial, giving evidence as a witness.

The inspector of the patrol police also explained why no protocol was drawn up on the fact of the documents absence. According to him, at first the patrol officers summoned the doctors and protected the place of the accident, and then their leadership sent his crew to another road accident that occurred nearby.

Prosecutor Valeriy Bukhan noted that if the court finds that Zaitseva did not have rights and registration certificates at the time of the accident, the indictment will be changed.

"If it is established directly during the court session, then we, as the prosecution, have the right to draw up a changed indictment, where we will indicate the circumstances that Zaitseva drove a vehicle without a driver's license. By the law, this is not a circumstance , which can aggravate the punishment, but we can indicate this and must indicate, of course, this will affect the punishment, unambiguously because it is also a violation of traffic rules, "the prosecutor said.

In her turn, Zaitseva's lawyer, Yulia Kozyr, claims that her client had the documents.

"The documents were there. They were not immediately found... Probably they found them in the car. Tthe rest of witnesses explain that she has shown them. These details surprised me. These documents were there, for sure, " the lawyer said.

The court announced a break until April 4.

As we reported earlier Lexus ran over a group of pedestrians in Kharkiv, northeastern Ukraine, on Wednesday evening. Alyona Zaitseva who drove the car violated the road traffic, crashing into Volkswagen Touareg driven by Gennady Dronov which threw her car towards the pavement. Both drivers survived, but Lexus ran over eleven passing by people. Five pedestrians received lethal injuries; another six were taken to a hospital with injuries of various degrees of severity.

Zaitseva was detained for two months without a right to bail. The court revoked her driver’ license and arrested both cars that participated in the accident.

The prosecution stated that Zaitseva used opiates not long before the tragedy occurred. According to the information of the defense, the suspect took the sedatives.

The version of Zaitseva defense is that the driver of the Touareg is guilty as he moved on the yellow traffic light. The defense of Gennady Dronov denies the accusation and claims that the driver of the Touareg moved on the green traffic light.
