The status of the driver of Volkswagen Touareg, who is now a witness in the tragic car accident in Kharkiv, might change after the expertise, head of Kharkiv region National Police Oleh Bekh told in a briefing, according to Radio Liberty.

Bekh said that the expertise is ongoing, and, based on its results, the definite conclusion on the culpability of each participant will be reached.

“It includes the second driver of the car accident, who drove the Volkswagen, whose role in the occurrence of the accident is now also studied by the investigation. I don’t rule out that after studying all the necessary data his status in the criminal proceeding could change,” Bekh said.

He also promised to inform about the results of the investigation in 10 days.

As it was reported according to the police, an SUV drove into a crowd of people in Kharkiv. As a result, five people died, six more were injured. The tragedy happened at about 8:45 pm at the crossing of Sumska street and Mechnykova lane. The driver of the Lexus RX ran a red light which led to a crash with Volkswagen Touareg. Six people died and five more were injured.
