Since the beginning of the year, Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) has carried about 12 million passengers, and the most popular route has been Kyiv-Kharkiv-Kyiv. The press service of Ukrzaliznytsia reported.
"Since the beginning of the year, Ukrainian Railways has transported 11.8 million passengers in domestic passenger trains. 3.9 million passengers chose trains to travel in the summer months. The most popular destinations were connections between regional centers," the statement informs.
Thus, since the beginning of the year, the following number of passengers has been transported in four main directions:
- Kyiv - Kharkiv - Kyiv: 498,900;
- Kyiv - Lviv - Kyiv: 437,700;
- Kyiv - Dnipro - Kyiv: 388,900;
- Kyiv - Odesa - Kyiv: 295,700
It is also noted that 33 million citizens used suburban trains.
"Today, 842 pairs of suburban and 72 pairs of passenger trains run in Ukraine. Five pairs of seasonal trains have completed their routes," Ukrzaliznytsia concluded.
As it was reported earlier, the Ukrainian government might allocate $ 161,6 million for the renewal of passenger rolling stock and overall modernization of the infrastructure.
