The body of Kharkiv mayor Hennadiy Kernes, who died from complications of the coronavirus, will be delivered from Berlin hospital on Monday, December 21. This was stated by the secretary of the City Council Ihor Terekhov, 057.ua reports.
The farewell ceremony and funeral will take place on Wednesday, December 23rd.
“The farewell ceremony will take place in the foyer of the opera house, from 9 am to 1 pm. Afterwards, the funeral will take place on the honorary alley,” Ihor Terekhov said.
The funeral service for Hennadiy Kernes will be held in the Annunciation Cathedral.
On December 17 it was reported that Hennadiy Kernes died in Germany.
Earlier, Kernes was diagnosed with Covid-19 back in September. Some sources reported that he had fallen into a coma, but the information was not confirmed. On September 15, it was stated that his friends and relatives had been considering options for transportation to one of the European countries. The initial place for transportation was Vienna, but then Germany became a priority.
On October 2, Hennadiy Kernes received a negative test result, which means there were no traces of Covid-19 in his body.
On December 11, he suffered kidney failure. The official was put on hemodialysis.
A three-day mourning period has been announced in the city after the death of Kharkiv Mayor Hennadiy Kernes.
