Day of Journalist is celebrated in Ukraine today, June 6.

The holiday was established on May 25, 1994, by Ukrainian President Leonid Kravchuk. He signed a decree back then, according to which media workers would celebrate the professional holiday on June 6 annually.

Journalist Day was not designated on June 6 by chance. Particularly, the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine was admitted to membership in the International Federation of Journalists this day. Vast majority of its participants voted in favor of such decision.

Petro Poroshenko has already congratulated media workers on Tuesday morning on his Facebook page by publishing a short congratulatory video.

Oleksandr Turchynov, the current Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, has also greeted the journalists' community on the occasion of the Journalist Day. He wished everyone engaged in Ukrainian journalism reasonableness, wisdom, patience and irresistible inspiration.
