As it was reported earlier the traffic through the new two-track Beskydy tunnel is to be opened on May 25, 2018. It is reported that in the tunnel and on the approaches to it, a total length of 2350 meters of roads have already been laid. And 900 meters of track has been laid in the tunnel as of the first decade of January. The turnouts were already laid in both sides of the Eastern portal. The power engineers install the contact grid supports and rigid cross-pieces.
Beskydy tunnel is is located in the Carpathians, on the Beskydy pass. It belongs to the Fifth Pan-European Transport Corridor (Italy - Slovenia - Hungary - Slovakia - Ukraine). It is expected that after the completion of the construction of the two-track tunnel, 100 pairs of trains per day will be able to pass through the tunnel (while the one-track railway created in 1886 can only let through 47 pairs of trains per day). The speed of the train will increase from 15-40 to 60-70 km/h.
