Former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili who returned to Ukraine on May 29 sated that President of the country Volodymyr Zelensky showed that he can make brave and quick decisions, that he is an independent politician who does not listen to anyone, as he told 112 Ukraine correspondent.

“By this step the President showed that he can make brave and quick decisions, that he is an independent politician who does not listen to anyone. That is why Ukrainian people voted for dismantling of oligarchic system, against dealer-like authority and for Zelensky,” he said.

Saakashvili added that this is one of the first decisions Zelensky made, and he realizes that many do not want to see him in Ukraine.

“When Zelensky gave the citizenship back to me – it was a very crave step of a decent president. It’s a historical change for Ukraine to have such president, such team and new opportunities,” he added.

Mikheil Saakashvili returned to Ukraine, the plane with ex-President of Georgia and former Head of Odesa Region State Administration landed at Boryspil airport on May 29.

Mikheil Saakashvili got his Ukrainian citizenship - again. This is mentioned in the decree of President Volodymyr Zelensky who reinstated the citizenship of the former Georgian president. 

Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko stated that Saakashvili financed the protests for the seizure of state power in Ukraine for the money of ex-President Viktor Yanukovych associates, in particular, Serhiy Kurchenko. In December 2017, Saakashvili was detained on suspicion of assisting members of a criminal organization and promoting criminal activity. He was informed of suspicion. In February 2018, he was deported from Ukraine to Poland; he had been staying in Warsaw until now.
