Former member of the National Council on TV and Radio Broadcasting Serhiy Kostynsky believes that Zelensky has no other leverages on Viktor Medvedchuk. He made such a statement commenting on the situation with the disconnection of Pershiy Nezalezhniy (First Independent) TV channel as Detector media reported.
“It is necessary to fight against the influence by legal methods. They are reliable and guarantee the success…The disconnection of the broadcasting of TV channel means that we are witnesses of the use of the telephone law and political pressure on commercial provides that provide such broadcasting,” Kostynsky stated.
According to him, the appliance of the telephone law is the last step that should be assumed by the authorities that exhausted all legal methods of the struggle.
“The strategy used by the Office of the President, the targeted NSDC sanctions did not work. The use of the telephone law to disconnect Pershiy Nezalezhniy TV channel[from satellite] is evidence that the president has no other leverages on Viktor Medvedchuk and his media assets. It is a complete failure; it is a fiasco,” the former National Council member said.
Kostynsky also added that according to him, the disconnection took place in the next steps: the President’s Office called the provider of service or company that holds the services of upload (for Pershiy Nezalezhniy TV channel, according to the license, it Sirius Ukraine Company) and demanded illicit disconnection of the signal. Even if the provided believed that such actions are illicit, might be appealed at the court, or might inflict reputation and commercial losses – the President’s Office found arguments that forced them to disconnect the signal.
On February 26, the journalists of TV channels illegally closed by President Volodymyr Zelensky united and created a new TV channel called Pershiy Nezalezhniy.
Pershiy Nezalezhniy TV channel was disconnected from broadcasting an hour after its start under the pressure of the authorities and law enforcement agencies.
