Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin called the issuance of the Hungarian passports to the citizens of Ukraine in Zakarpattia region a "challenge for the national security as Ukrinform reported.
"The distribution of the citizenship is banned by Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. They should do only those things that we allow to do at our territory. But we the consul says that – you should hide this, show one passport there and another passport here – it is, in some extent, an attempt to mock but against yourself," Klimkin emphasized.
Reportedly, earlier, Ukrainian outlet Ukrinform published the video where a number of Ukrainian citizens receive Hungarian passports and take an oath of allegiance to Hungary in the Hungarian Consulate in Berehove. The procedure is followed with the advice of the Hungarian diplomat to not to tell Ukrainian authorities about the receipt of new documents.
Foreign Minister of Ukraine reported that that early published on the net video with the issuance of Hungarian passports in Zakarpattia region is being verified. If it proves to be true, then the Hungarian Consul may be expelled from the country.
In his turn, Hungary's Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó claimed that the government of Hungary threatens to delay the integration of Ukraine to the European Union as the Ukrainian government reported on the possibility of the expulsion of the Hungarian consul in Berehovo due to the scandalous video on the issuance of the passports.
