Involvement of police officers in attack on Antonov aircraft designer investigated

Two criminal cases were opened due to the attack on Viktor Kovalsky, the worker of the state company “Antonov” ,as the prosecutor’s office of Kyiv reported.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the investigation subdivision of Solomiansky investigation department of the National Police received the application on the attack at the worker of “Antonov” due to his currency fraud.

“According to this fact, the investigators of the police put the information on the signs of the deliberately inflicted actual bodily harm to Unified State Register of Pretrial Investigation and begin the pretrial investigation,” the message said.

“At the same time, during the considering of the materials of the criminal proceeding by the procedural heads and holding of the immediate questioning of the victim, Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office #9 established the circumstances, which show the possible involvement of the police officers in the incident. Considering the foregoing, the local prosecutor’s office put the data on the commitment of the criminal offense by the police officers to the United state register of pretrial investigation due to the abuse of power or official authority. The criminal proceeding is sent to the territorial department of State Investigation Bureau of Kyiv,” the message said.

The State Investigation Bureau confirmed the beginning of the criminal proceeding on the involvement of the police officers in the attack at the aircraft designer.

The perpetrators can be imprisoned from two up to five years.

As we reported Viktor Kovalsky, the 81-year-old famous aircraft designer, who created An-225 Mriya was beaten up in Kyiv.  Three unknowns attacked him and began to beat him up by legs. Two police officers, who arrived to the site later, also used force against Kovalsky as the victim reported to the journalists. The police did not confirm the involvement of the officers in the beating; however, it stated that the officers of the patrol police worked at the site.
