The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine intends to agree with France on the possibility of the mutual interchange of driving license when the citizens of both countries will be able to change their national driving license on the license of the country they live in. Arsen Avakov, the Interior Minister discussed this issue with his French colleague Gerard Collomb as the press service of the ministry reported.
‘The drivers were able to drive a year with the Ukrainian driving license in the European countries and they should get the national driver license passing the theoretic and practical examinations and pay 600 or 100 euros. Taking into account that a lot of the Ukrainians live and work in France, the issue of the liberalization and cheapening of this procedure of the mutual recognition of the national driver licenses and their exchange is not the particular case but very important and prioritized for us. We will put the most efforts to execute the Agreement on the mutual exchange of the driver licenses with France’, Avakov said.
This agreement does not abolish the norm of the law that allows using the national driver license more than a year after the issuance of the official registration.
It is specified that the exchange of the documents does not provide the passing of the exams. The old driver license will be withdrawn after the issuance of the new one. The acting of the agreement will include the Ukrainians who legally live in the country and who are the residents at least four years and have the valid Ukrainian driver license.
‘I want to thank for the support and significant contribution of France in the reforming of the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The on the mutual exchange of the driver licenses, the issue of the cooperation in the cyber-security sphere, fight against the international organized criminality and experience exchange between the French gendarmerie and the National Guard are the prioritized issues of the cooperation for us’, Avakov added.
Earlier Avakov claimed that the first driver license should be issued for two years. According to him, if during these two years the person doesn’t break the traffic rules more than two times or doesn’t break them at all, after the time runs out the person will be given the driving license valid for 30 years, without additional exams.
