Zelensky team insisted on holding the inaugural ceremony on May 19 and there were two bills for this date in the Verkhovna Rada, but the parliament voted for May 20. The team of Zelensky commented that it was an attempt to “get back at the Ukrainians,” who want the new President to take office as soon as possible. Such decision also created problems for the arrival of foreign guests and international delegation, as Zelensky’s Advisor noted.

Zelensky defeated President Petro Poroshenko in an April 21 runoff election with landslide 73 percent of votes. His opponent received less than 25 percent.

Inauguration is a formal solemn ceremony held in the session hall of Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada, it is the process of swearing a president-elect into office and thus making that person the incumbent.

After the president says his address, the head of CEC presents the certificate to the president of Ukraine, and the head of the Constitutional Court gives him the symbols of presidential power: a mace, a seal and a badge. Earlier, Stanislav Shevchuk was dismissed from the office and Natalya Shaptala became new Head of Constitutional Court of Ukraine.
