The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Dnipropetrovsk region blocked the illegal supply of products to the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk People's Republic. As SBU press service reported, the profit of the offenders amounted to more than $20 million.
According to law enforcers, two residents of Donetsk organized the scheme under the guise of exporting Ukrainian-made food and medicine of well-known foreign brands to one of the countries of the South Caucasus through Russia.
After crossing the Russian border, the route of shipments was changed drastically and the produce was illegally transported to the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region.
Taxes and fees on the sale of goods went to the maintenance of gangs and occupation administrations.
According to the investigation, the goods were shipped to the addresses of fictitious companies. In order to cover up the deal, organizers involved as a partner a controlled legal entity from a real sector of the Ukrainian economy. This created an appearance of legitimate foreign economic activity.
The co-organizer of the criminal scheme was caught red-handed when she arrived from Donetsk to negotiate with partners the further illegal supply of products to the so-called Donetsk People's Republic.
During searches in offices in Mariupol and at the place of temporary residence of the malefactor in Kyiv, law enforcers seized: computer equipment and mobile phones with evidence of illegal activity; accounting documentation of financial and economic activities of enterprises involved in the illegal scheme.
"Currently, the perpetrators have been notified of the suspicion under Part 1 of Article 258-3 (Assistance to the activities of a terrorist organization) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and the issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being resolved," press service of the SBU states.
The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of eight to fifteen years with or without confiscation of property.
As was reported on August 17, offenders tried to illegally import $ 75,068 worth textiles from China to Ukraine on Odesa customs. Textiles were confiscated in favor of the state and offenders will be prosecuted.
