The fire followed by the detonation of ammunition at the sixth depot of the Defense Ministry near Druzhba settlement of Chernihiv region started after four explosions, as it was noted by officers on duty.
The Deputy Chief of General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces Rodion Tymoshenko said this at the briefing on air of 112 Ukraine TV channel.
“At the moment, according to the operative group of the General Staff, the officers on duty confirmed the fact of detonation in four places of the depots, and the explosions were in the different sectors of the depot, as a result of which the fire started,” Tymoshenko said.
According to him, the fire covers 10% of the technical area of the depot.
“Recently, around 50% of the heavy caliber ammunition was taken away from this depot and from open grounds and placed in other depots, closed underground storages,” he added.
At the same time, it is reported that there were no casualties or injured among the military staff or civilians.
Reportedly, an explosion on the sixth armoury occurred in Ichnia, Chernihiv region. The air-space within 30 km is shut down, traffic and railway movement are stopped due to the emergency situation.
Ukraine’s Defence Ministry reports that as of 7 am the intensity of the explosions is 2-3 explosions per second.
