“I think Hungary makes a mistake using NATO as a pressure tool in this regard. Ukraine faces some serious challenges – intervention and Russia’s occupation. This should worry every NATO member including Hungary. And I think that blockage of NATO-Ukraine commission is a mistake though I support negotiations and solution of the question concerning the language of the Hungarian language in Ukraine,” Volker said.
He expressed hope that President Zelensky will manage to resolve the issue of Hungary’s blockage of NATO-Ukraine commission.
As it was reported, at the meeting with President of Hungary János Áder Volodymyr Zelensky stated he hoped for restoration of the support of European and Euro Atlantic integration for Ukraine from Budapest.
After Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko signed the language law, Hungary’s MFA informed that they hope President Volodymyr Zelensky will resolve the “problematic issues”.
As it was reported earlier, on April 25, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the draft law #5670-d on the provision of the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state one in the second reading and in general.
The status of Ukraine's state language will be endorsed over the course of the next ten years when the government implements the respective program.
