Hungary will continue to give passports to the citizens of Ukraine's Zakarpattia, but on its territory. Passports will be issued in Hungarian city Kisvárda, situated near the border. This was reported by the head of Zakarpattia region State Administration Hennadiy Moskal on air of 112 Ukraine TV channel.
“Nothing has changed. They changed the issuing place to Hungarian city Kisvárda. People can take a suburban train, which reaches the city in 7 minutes and they are accepted there. It does not influence the economy or region. There is a different opinion. If we are going to Europe and our motto is “no borders,” then what does dual citizenship give us? Every passport of EU member state citizens says “European Union,” without mentioning the country. Do we want to the EU? We do,” Moskal commented on the situation.
According to him, people who receive such passports, have deferent motives to do so.
“Many people receive it to find a job, others – to get pension, some – to unite with the relatives. There is no one who would do that over patriotism or love, everyone has their own reasons. Hungary cannot accept such a number of people and it does all so that these people stay on the territory of Zakarpattia and helps them,” Moskal said.
As it was reported earlier, Ukrainian outlet Ukrinform published the video where a number of Ukrainian citizens receive Hungarian passports and take an oath of allegiance to Hungary in the Hungarian Consulate in Berehove. The procedure is followed with the advice of the Hungarian diplomat to not to tell Ukrainian authorities about the receipt of new documents.
Earlier, Hungarian Ambassador in Ukraine Ernő Keskeny claimed that Ukrainian Hungarians have an absolute right to receive Hungarian passports when the former head of Zakarpattia Regional State Administration Viktor Baloha claimed that 90 thousand of Zakarpattia residents have Hungarian passports.
Head of Ukrainian MFA Pavlo Klimkin claimed that early published on the net video with the issuance of Hungarian passports in Zakarpattia region is being verified. If it proves to be true, then the Hungarian Consul may be expelled from the country.
