Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin claimed that the Hungarian consul who appears in the video with a number of the Ukrainian citizens in Berehovo who get the Hungarian passports and took an oath of fealty to Hungaria, will leave Ukraine as European Truth reported.
"However, there is no need to discuss on some particular actions of the Hungarian consul; we should clearly set the record straight. And we will do it. In the coming days, the consul will return to the homeland," the minister said.
Klimkin emphasized that either consul and his leaders in Budapest knew that Ukraine has objections on the provision of the second citizenship to its citizens as the Constitution and the legislation of Ukraine provided only one citizenship, Ukrainian.
"The fact that there is no criminal or administrative responsibility for the dual citizenship does not alter the situation. The violation remains to be a violation and hostile actions are hostile," Ukrainian minister wrote.
Also, Klimkin thinks that the discussion on the dual citizenship is long overdue in Ukraine.
"We are well aware that in Ukraine, dozens or even hundred thousands of people have the passports of the neighboring countries. And it is not only about the ethnic Hungarians. I think it is necessary to hold a discussion on the attitude of the state to this numerous group of the compatriots. I note – the discussion not for the worsening of their state or for the stigmatize them as the traitors but for the reasonable legal and other conflicts."
Earlier, Ukrinfrom published a video where a few Ukrainians are receiving Hungarian passports and owe allegiance to Hungry in the Consulate in Berehove. The Hungarian diplomat recommended not to inform the Ukrainian authorities about receiving the new documents.
Later, Pavlo Klimkin, the Foreign Minister, said that the video is being checked on the authenticity. If it is authentic, the Hungarian consul might be expelled from the country.
In his turn, Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, claimed the attempts to intimidate the Transcarpathian Hungarians and threatened to make Ukraine’s integration more complicated.
Later it was also reported that for seven years, the Hungarian consulates in Berehove and Uzhhorod of Zakarpattia region have been granting Hungarian citizenship to local residents who are citizens of Ukraine.
Tamás Menczer, Hungary’s Foreign Minister Spokespoerson later reported that Hungary does not intend to withdraw its consul from Berehovo due to the scandalous video about issuance of Hungarian passports to the Ukrainians.
In its turn, Ukraine claimed that in case, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary does not withdraw their consul from Berehove, Zakarpattia region, and then Ukraine will offer him to abandon the territory.
