About Donbas

Russian militants once again allowed an outraging ceasefire violation in Donbas combat area. On September 10, they used small arms to attack Ukrainian positions near Shumy, Donetsk region. Earlier, Ukraine’s Presidential Office and the Russian proxies agreed to hold the joint inspection of Ukrainian positions in this area. However, shortly after that, the Ukrainian side claimed there would be no inspection. Thanks to the timely report from the Ukrainian intelligence, no casualties were observed during the attack. Both sides blamed each other for disrupting the initial agreement.

One Ukrainian serviceman, the Marine, was killed in an explosion of a landmine; another two troopers sustained injuries, which were also inflicted by the landmine.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba claimed that Kyiv is going to bring up the murder of a soldier of the Armed Forces in Donbas and the violation of the ceasefire in Donbas in general at the upcoming Normandy talks.

About coronavirus

As of September 11, 148,756 cases of Covid-19 observed in Ukraine. While, 16,523 of them in Kyiv. However, the Health Ministry stated that the death-rate in Ukraine is one of the lowest in Europe.

Starting from August 14, the new epidemic zoning in Ukraine will become effective on September 14. Kyiv ended up in the orange quarantine zone. Besides, it was reported that the red zone quarantine all over Ukraine might be re-introduced.

Meanwhile, the WHO predicts that the current coronavirus pandemic is not the last one and the countries should be better prepared for the next one.

By the way, Russia released to the civil circulation the first batch of Sputnik V vaccine against the coronavirus.

About beating of ex-political prisoner Volodymyr Balukh

On the night of 7 to 8 September, former political prisoner Volodymyr Balukh was beaten by unknown. His cell phone and the credit card went missing after the attacks. Balukh was hospitalized; while police opened the criminal case. Later it was reported that state of Balukh is stable critical and he had surgery.

About the situation in Belarus 

The Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on Legal Affairs and Human Rights announced the creation of the international investigative body for the collection of evidence of a violation of human rights in Belarus.

The Seimas of Lithuania passed the resolution in which the parliamentarians called Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya the legally elected leader of Belarus.

The EU countries agreed to impose sanctions against 40 Belarusian officials. However, there is no consensus regarding Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko.

About raise of Delfi tanker in Odesa

Ukraine’s State Environmental Committee and specialists from other services finally managed to lift Delfi, the sunken tanker from the coast of the Black Sea, not far from Odesa. It took a lot of time before the works eventually succeeded; the tanker sunk last November, and all attempts to lift it were fruitless, until July 26, when rescuers put the vessel on its backbone.

The Ukrainian side sued the ship owner company, demanding to compensate funds spent to conduct the lifting operation.

About sports

Vasyl Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez Jr. have officially signed contracts for their unification bout, which is scheduled for October 17. The fight will be held without spectators.

London's West Ham United is interested in acquiring Shakhtar Donetsk FC’s middlefielder Mykola Matviienko. The Miners want to receive at least 20 million euros for their defender.

Ukrainian boxer Serhiy Derevyanchenko believes he has a good chance of beating WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo.
