Ambassadors of the EU have considered the options of creation of EUATM, a military and education mission of the EU in Ukraine. A district court in Chernivtsi (southwestern Ukraine) has pronounced a sentence in the case of pro-Russian mercenary, the militant of the so-called "Donetsk People's Republic". The culprit is sentenced to 10 years in jail in absentia. According to the ivnestigation team, the man was born in Kostyantynivka, Donetsk region; he goes by the alias of Sever (Russian for North, - 112 International). In spring 2014, he joined Vostok, one of the illegal armed formations that appeared in Donbas then. He was immediately recruited in the tank battalion and then served as First Deputy Commander of that unit, being responsible for organization and conduction of military actions.
It became known that Ukraine spent $1.11 billion to combat Covid-19 epidemic in January-August. Since the beginning of the vaccination campaign a total of 11 million 229 thousand 595 vaccinations were carried out in Ukraine as of September 16.
Scientists predict that a new Covid wave could have devastating consequences. Chernivtsi, Ternopil, Volyn, and Zakarpattia regions can enter the red quarantine zone soon.

Government agrees on business privileges in lockdown: the Minister proposes not to extend the restrictions of the yellow and red quarantine zones to establishments where staff and visitors will have Covid-certificates, which have been updated. Government will not suspend traffic during quarantine restrictions.
Nord Stream 2
This week, it was reported that German federal regulator had launched Nord Stream 2 certification procedure. While Russian Foreign Minister claims that "Ukraine constantly begging for smth" in the context of Nord Stream 2. Whereas Ukraine's Foreign Minister said Ukraine exerted ‘only friendly pressure’ on partners to prevent launch of Nord Stream 2. At the same time, Zelensky created a workgroup to develop solutions to threats coming from Nord Stream 2.
Inaddition, from July 31, volumes of injection of the Russian gas in underground storages of Europe which were used by concern Gazprom decreased. In particular, the decrease in the level of injection of natural gas affected storage facilities in Austria (Hyde), Germany (Reden), the Netherlands (Bergermeer). At the same time, the transportation of gas to Europe via the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline, which passes through Belarus and Poland to Germany, has also decreased.
In the first week of August, the price of gas in European markets reached a new high - 520 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters.
On September 15, the price of gas in Europe broke another record, reaching $950 per thousand cubic meters for the first time in history. On Wednesday, the price jumped up by 17.27% at once.
IMF and Ukraine
Another tranche from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the amount of $750 million should arrive in Ukraine at the end of November or the beginning of December, as Prime Minister Denys Shmygal reported. According to him, the IMF mission will come to Ukraine on September 18. This mission will be the final one in the “preparation and provision of the next tranche. Shmygal explained that after the mission, five-seven weeks of preparation should pass and meeting of the IMF board should be held before the tranche.
IMF representative Jerry Rice has confirmed the fund's intention to hold the virtual mission in Ukraine; it is supposed to perform the first revision of the stand-by program in September. However, the official could not provide any specific dates.
President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded Paralympian Maksym Kripak with the title of Hero of Ukraine. The President noted that Kripak was recognized as the best athlete of the XVI Paralympic Games. The swimmer is also a ten-time Paralympic champion; during the recent Paralympics in Tokyo, he collected seven awards on his own – five gold, one silver and one bronze.
The Ice Hockey Federation of Ukraine and its new title partner announced their intention to create the Ukrainian Hockey Hall of Fame in 2022. The partakers will be chosen through the voting among the contenders. Besides, not only the citizens of Ukraine but people of Ukrainian origin overseas will be chosen to appear this list. It may include Mike Bossy (Mykhailo Bosyi), Terry Sawchuk (Taras Savchuk) and even legendary Wayne Gretzky (Ivan Hretsky).
It clearly wasn't the best week for Ukrainian football fans. FC Sheriff Tiraspol defeated Shakhtar Donetsk (2-0) in their opener of UEFA Champions League group stage. Meanwhile, Dynamo Kyiv played a 0-0 draw with SL Benfica in the same tournament.
