About Donbas

In spite of OSCE’s statements that Russian mercenaries were partly ready to withdraw their forces from division line in Donbas, military actions continue. In the matter of several days, Ukraine’s troops lost several fighters killed and some more wounded. Besides, the enemy kept on shelling the vicinities of Zolote, which is the area of disengagement of forces.

Foreign Minister of Ukraine Vadym Prystaiko stated that the peacekeepers in Donbas might be deployed only if the talks on the settlement of Donbas Conflict in Minsk and Normandy formats are not successful.

Kalmiuske, Novoazovsk, Sakhanka and Kumachovo, the settlements in the Donbas combat area should be demilitarized. The Ukrainian side in the Minsk tripartite group claimed this, referring to Darka Olifer, the press secretary of ex-president Leonid Kuchma. 

OSCE reported that representatives of self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics hold the population census.


About corruption in Ukraine

Former First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleh Gladkovsky tried to leave Ukraine and was detained by National Anti-Corruption Bureau. Gladkovsky is accused of organizaing corruption scheme to smuggle spare military-equipment parts from Russia in 2015.

NABU also opened criminal proceedings against ex-Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko. Lutsenko commented on this, saying "the habit of my opponents to look for fleas and show them as mammoths, is still the same. Despite the fanfares of some media, this NABU case is on to the fact that I allegedly did not reprimand the deputy. There is nothing to say, it seems like a big case."


About IMF

Ukraine’s delegation came to Washington for negotiations with the IMF. Finance Minister Oksana Markarova and Economy Minister Tymofiy Milovanov head the delegation, which aims for active talks with international financial organizations, EU foundations, U.S. Treasury and investors. The officials have a number of meetings with the Fund's representatives, foreign investors, as well as members of the U.S. Treasury of the State.

The Fund's mission came to Kyiv last month and approved the new cooperation program. It foresees that the sum of financial support for Ukraine will make from five to ten million dollars. Ukraine hopes to get the first tranche by the end of the year.

The Fund does not bring up the issue of increasing the gas tariffs for Ukraine's population. Yakiv Smoliy, the Head of the National Bank of Ukraine said so in an interview with the Voice of America. "The issue of the gas price is not discussed because the government had previously passed the decree that regulated the tariffs. Besides, the current situation at the world market is quite favorable; the gas prices dropped, so we don't talk about increasing them for the time being", the official stated.



About protests  

Participants of "No to capitulation!" protest in Kyiv lighted fires and threw smoke bombs during a procession along Khreschatyk Street to Independence Square. Up to 12,000 people took part in the "No to capitulation!" protest. Law enforcement officers did not record any offenses.


About Trump in Ukraine scandal

President Donald Trump's former top Russia adviser Fiona Hill was the latest witness who testified in the impeachment inquiry against Trump. However, the democratic lawmakers have yet to hear the whistleblower who sparked the probe of Trump's impeachment inquiry.

Meanwhile, US Vice President Mike Pence and President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani said that they would not cooperate with the impeachment investigation initiated by the US House of Representatives.

Besides, US Congress postponed a vote on the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

Recently, US Ambassador in the EU Gordon Sondland testified before the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress; he explained how President Trump's relations with the new Ukrainian government shaped and evolved.

Besides, the White House stated that President Donald Trump's delay of 391 million dollars in military aid to Kyiv was linked to his request to investigate Ukrainian officials' interference in the 2016 US election.



About sports

On October 18, WBC light-heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk will square off with Russian Artur Beterbiev in a unification bout. Oleksandr Usyk made a successful debut in the heavyweight division. His rival was American Chazz Witherspoon, who stepped up on short notice after the bout with Tyrone Spong had been canceled. The fight ended in the seventh round when Witherspoon's corner decided to stop the beating and refused to continue the fight.
