About Donbas

One of Ukrainian military servicemen lost his life in combat in Donbas on early June 19.

A civilian woman sustained a wound to her lower back caused by the mine explosion; the incident took place after a strike on residential buildings in Avdiivka, Donetsk region.

Russian passports, issued to residents of the occupied Donbas are "worthless pieces of paper". Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said this in his interview.

About EU sanctions and summit

Council of EU continued anti-Russian sanctions imposed for Crimea’s annexation until June 2021. The anti-Russian sanctions have a negative impact on the military-industrial complex of Russia and the different spheres of economy, which is in the difficult situation due to the pandemic, the UKraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Vasyl Bodnar said.

It was also reported that EU-Ukraine summit was scheduled for October.

About coronavirus 

Record numbers of new cases of coronavirus infection have been reported in Ukraine over the last three days. That is why Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers has decided to extend adaptive lockdown until July 31.

The Ukrainian government even considers a strengthening of lockdown restrictions in some regions starting from June 22.

According to Prime Minister Denys Shmygal, Ukraine is now facing the second wave of coronavirus infection.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s first lady Olena Zelenska was hospitalized with pneumonia just a few days after being diagnosed with Covid-19.

About flights

Wizz Air airline renewed the flights from Kyiv International Airport to Hungary, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Greece and the UK.

Igor Sikorsky Kyiv International Airport (Zhuliany) has received permission from the State Aviation Service to operate flights.

Poland resumed international air traffic on the territory of the EU and the EFTA (European Free Trade Association). However, the flights from Kyiv that were scheduled on June 17 were canceled. 

About NATO

Ukraine became NATO Enhanced Opportunities Partner. Read what it means here. Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine said it marks approach to standards of Alliance. It was reported that NATO wanted Ukraine to apply five important laws.

Whereas, Hungary continues blockade of Ukraine after provision of new status in NATO.

On the oter hand, Stoltenberg praises Ukraine for becoming NATO Enhanced Opportunities Partner.

About Nord Stream 2 and gas

Germany said that the U.S. sanctions against Nord Stream 2 impinge on EU energy security.

And the U.S. company wants to supply liquefied gas to Ukraine: 5.5 billion cubic meters annually for 20 years.

About sports

Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk intends to take advantage of his WBO mandated opportunity in order to face Anthony Joshua in the near future. However, according to Usyk's promoter, Oleksandr Krassyuk, the fight for the vacant title is also being considered.

Dynamo Kyiv FC entered the final of Ukrainian Cup with a classy performance against FC Minaj. It is club’s 17th Cup final.

Shakhtar Donetsk FC is expected to face Vfl Wolsburg once again in 1/8 finals of the Europa League. Their match will be hosted by Ukraine.
