About Donbas conflict

Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine is ready to discuss the special status of Donbas and Crimea within Ukraine. The minister said this in an interview. The Minister has noted that the Ukrainian side is ready to negotiate on the special status of these regions within Ukraine, without giving them the right to veto any national decisions. He also added that the next meeting of ministers of the Normandy Four member countries could take place in the near future.

Ukraine's State Security Service (the SBU) exposed former militant from the so-called "Bezler group" (Igor Bezler, the Russian officer who was in charge of Russian armed gangs in Donbas in 2014, - 112 International). The man is charged with tortures of Ukrainian military servicemen and civilians in Donbas.

On June 1, entry-exit checkpoints in the area of Joint Forces Operation switched to the summertime working mode. The list of checkpoints includes Zolote, Mayorske, Mariinka, Novotroitske, Hnutove, and Stanytsia Luhanska.

About coronavirus

As of June 5, there are 25,964 cases of coronavirus infection in Ukraine. 3,292 cases are registered in Kyiv. As of now, 131 Covid-19 cases are observed at Armed Forces of Ukraine; while 569 cases of infection were registered in Russia-occupied Crimea.

On June 1, railway, interregional bus traffic, as well as gyms and swimming pools resumed work in Ukraine. However, the Health Ministry supposes it might extend the lockdown after June 22. Moreover, despite the fact that June 5 was the date of another mitigation, Kyiv and several other Ukrainian regions were not ready for it. Thus, the cafes and restaurants remain closed.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization noted a gradual stabilization of the Covid-19 situation in Ukraine.

About appointments in Ukraine

On June 4, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved some changes to the composition of the Ukrainian government:

Vadym Prystaiko was dismissed from the post of Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration. Olha Stefanishyna will take over from him.

The Ukrainian parliament also appointed new Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine - Oleksandr Tkachenko, former head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on information policy, was assigned to the post.

About IMF

Directors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will make the final decision on the allocation of the tranche to Ukraine up to June 10, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal said. The sum of the tranche will make $5 billion. The Fund also revealed its further requirements that Ukraine’s government should live up to so as to get the next loan.

The loan of the IMF will allow Ukraine to cover up for the budget deficit. Serhiy Marchenko, the Finance Minister of Ukraine said this during a talk show on one of Ukrainian TV channels.

About sanctions

The European Union would start work on imposing sanctions against Russian hackers responsible for cyberattack on German Bundestag in 2015.

Moreover, Norway assured in its intentions not to lift anti-Russian sanctions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, a bipartisan group of the U.S. Congress senators determined the list of entities that will face new sanctions tied with the launch of the Russian Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

About Crimea

On May 31, Ukrainian military serviceman disappeared on border with Crimea. And later, Russia’s FSB reports on detention of missing Ukrainian serviceman. Verkhovna Rada called on world to condemn Russia's violation of Crimean Tatars’ rights and freedoms.

In addition, Crimean human rights activists turned to UN, claiming that prisoners don't get tested for Covid-19.

Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister for Reintegration of the Temporary Occupied Territories Oleksiy Reznikov stated that Ukraine was not going to restore water supply to the temporarily occupied Crimea until it was de-occupied. Whereas, Crimean Tatar Mejlis Head said that residents of annexed Crimea have enough water.

On June 4, Russian army held tank drills in annexed Crimea. At the same time, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine is ready to discuss the special status of Donbas and Crimea within Ukraine.

About sports

According to boxing promoter Bob Arum, Vasyl Lomachenko will face Teofimo Lopez Jr. in September. Arum is guardedly optimistic that by this time there will be a limited amount of fans let into sporting events.

Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo (summer 2021) might be held in the simplified format due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This issue is being considered by the government of Japan along with the competition’s organizing committee.

A fight between Ukrainian boxer Sergiy Derevyanchenko and four-weight world champion Saul Alvarez is in talks. It may take place on September 14, at 168-pound weight category.
