About Donbas conflict

The Ukrainian side is ready to start dismantling the fortifications in the area of Stanytsia Luhanska in Donbas combat zone. The Joint Forces Operation HQ reported that with the reference to the data from the Joint Control and Coordination Centre. The military is ready to start the works on July 24, 2019. The three fortification buildings located between the entry-exit checkpoint and the destroyed bridge over Siversky Donets river. These works are part of the agreement on the division of troops and forces in this sector of Donbas combat area. 

64 inmates were transferred from prisons in the occupied part of Luhansk region to Ukraine-controlled territory. Deputy Justice Minister Denys Chernyshov posted that on Facebook.The passage took place in tight cooperation with the Office of Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova; the men served time in detention centers in the temporarily occupied area of Luhansk region.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine’s Affairs Kurt Volker and the U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland. The President and the U.S. officials discussed the current situation in the JFO area, particularly separation of forces and means around Stanytsia Luhanska.

About Azov Crisis

This week, Ukraine’s SBU detained Russian tanker NIKA SPIRIT which blocked Ukrainian Nikopol, Berdyansk and Yanu Kapu in Kerch Strait in autumn 2018.

Later it was reported that Russian sailors detained at a tanker in Izmail (Odesa region, southern Ukraine) have been released.

On Jul 25, it was informed that Russian MFA was “investigating the circumstances” of the detention of Russian tanker to “take adequate measures.”

About snap parliamentary elections in Ukraine

Elections in Ukraine are over now. It was reported that voter turnout in Ukraine 's snap parliamentary elections made 49,84%.  Polling stations have been closed, so sociological agencies now publish their results. See the final results of exit polls: who won the elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. 

President Zelensky party Servant of the People won the majority of votes in the elections.

G7 Ambassadors noted that elections were held in compliance with fundamental rights and freedoms.

About Crimea

At the beginning of the week, it was reported that police served charges the person, who facilitated occupation of the Crimea.

Later, Kyiv court ruled out to charge Russia for $1 billion for seizing Ukraine’s bank assets in Crimea.

European Union will refuse Schengen visa to Crimeans who received passport after annexation of the peninsula.

The statue of goddess Flora in Crimea’s Nikitsky Botanical Garden will be replaced by Lenin bust.

About sports

Zorya Luhansk FC played the opener of this season's UEFA Europa League. On Thursday night, the Ukrainian squad faced Buducnost Podgorica (Montenegro), as the teams started their performance in the competition's Qualification Round 2. Zorya's Artem Gromov scored a double in the first half. In the second, the opponents managed to score one in return; but in the end, Levan Arveladze sealed the fate, making the final score 1-3. 

Junior Moraes, the forward of Ukraine's national team and Shakhtar Donetsk may continue his career in Italy. Edin Dzeko plans to leave AS Roma, and the Gialo Rossi seek a new forward to replace the Bosnian. While Gonzalo Higuain is the main candidate for that, and Juventus already approved the deal, the Argentinian has not yet said "yes". If the option with Gonzalo fails, Roma could also eye the Brazilian forward of Shakhtar Donetsk.
