Donbas

There are no registered bills in the Ukrainian Parliament on the local elections in Donbas. Dmytro Razumkov, the Speaker reported that on the evening show at 112 Ukraine TV channel.

The Ministry of Occupied Territories will be created in Ukraine; PM Oleksiy Honcharuk said so as quoted by the press department of the President’s Office.

The OSCE spotted underground armored vehicles and military dugout, which belongs to militants in the uncontrolled territory of Donetsk region.

Workers of the Office of Prosecutor General informed a Ukrainian citizen of suspicion of the membership of an illegal armed unit of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic. Another charge is the violent treatment of civilian captives and POWs.

The new TV channel for the temporarily occupied areas of Donbas is to be launched on March 1. Ukraine's Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Volodymyr Borodyansky reported that on February 7.

Russian militants are carrying out additional mining along the line of contact in Donbas, even in the immediate proximity to settlements and civilian infrastructure.

Coronavirus

The Chinese coronavirus already killed at least 636 people – including the doctor who was among the first to warn his colleagues about the deadly disease spreading around. Currently, another 31,000 are infected.

The World Health Organization claimed that on February 6, 73 people succumbed to the disease. Most of the cases are reported in Hubei province, where the epidemic started. At the same time, over 100,000 patients overcame the disease. Their lives are beyond danger now. The medics fear that the epidemic has not yet reached its peak.

Creation of land sale market in Ukraine

This week Ukraine’s parliament was considering the controversial land sale market draft law. Controversial – because the ruling party is rushing draft law’s adoption, but the opposition is slowing down the process, gathering the protesting farmers who are against these changes across the country and near the building of the Verkhovna Rada. This week opposition MPs blocked the tribune to prevent adopting land sale market law. Chair of Batkivshchyna Party Yulia Tymoshenko ripped the microphone out of hands of Chair of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov.

After all, on Friday, February 7, David Arahamia, chairman of the Servant of the People’s parliamentary faction, announced the final vote on the land market bill in April (and not this week).

Developments in PS752 case

On February 3, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Iran offered $80,000 of compensation to the families of Ukrainians deceased in PS752 crash. However, Ukraine found this sum insufficient and it would strive for its increase. Besides, Zelensky reported that Iran agreed to involve Ukrainian experts into decryption of PS752 black boxes.

Later, Zelensky stated that Iran knew immediately it had shot down a Ukrainian airliner.

Iranian official said that Teheran would no longer transmit to Ukraine the data from the investigation into the crash of Boeing 737.

Meanwhile, France expressed readiness to assist Ukraine with deciphering on-board recorders from the Ukrainian Boeing 737. Canada demanded from Iran to observe the international norms and pass the black boxes of downed Ukrainian plane for decryption

On February 5, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office admitted it failed to establish direct communication with law enforcement bodies of Iran.

Besides, Reporters Without Borders stated that dozens of Iranian journalists became under pressure of authority after Ukrainian plane was downed.

Trump acquitted

On the evening of February 4, (morning of February 5 in Kyiv), US President Donald Trump was acquitted by the Senate. Trump made 2020 State of Union Address to the citizens of United States. Before he started to talk, he handed down the speech paper to Nansy Pelosi forgetting though to shake her hand. Pelosi became Internet meme after she tore Trump's papers.

Honcharuk wiretapping

On February 5, Prosecutor General of Ukraine stated that there are no final results in the investigation of wiretapping of Ukraine’s Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk.  

The same day the Security Service of Ukraine has started the search of the building of 1+1 TV channel. It was noted that there is a PC where the recordings of Honcharuk’s wiretapping were mounted in the building where searches take place.

Later the SBU stated that carried out investigative actions in the case of Honcharuk wiretapping investigative actions were held in relation to ministers, representatives of state power

Sports developments

Artem Dalakian, WBA flyweight world champion, will defend his title in Kyiv, on February 8. Ukrainian boxer is expected to have his fourth title defense against 24-year-old Josber Perez from Venezuela.

Ukrainian basketball player Oleksiy Len will join Sacramento Kings. Atlanta Hawks will trade Len and Jabari Parker for Dewayne Dedmon.

Ukraine’s Ivan Redkach was suspended for a year after biting Danny Garcia on the shoulder during their boxing bout. In addition, the New York State Athletic Commission fined him for 10,000 dollars and confiscated his entire 300,000 dollars purse.

Eurovision Song Contest 2020: Ukrainian selection

On January 20, Ukraine announced semifinalists and three judges of Ukraine's National Selection for Eurovision 2020. They are: musician and actor Andriy Danylko (Verka Serdiuchka), singer Tina Karol and general producer of radio holding #1 in Ukraine TAVR Media, Director General of Hit-FM – Vitaly Drozdov.

Results of draw for semifinals appeared on January 22. First semifinal will be held on February 8. [О] band, Jerry Heil, Katya Chilly, KRUTЬ, GO-A, CLOUDLESS, GIO, Assol will fight for the place in the final.

Second semifinal will be on February 15 with MOONZOO feat. F. M. F. Sure, FO SHO, Elina Ivashchenko, Oleksandr Poriadynsky, GARNA, KHAYAT, David Axelrod and TVORCHI.

Before the first semifinal 15 out of 16 contestants have released their songs. Katya Chilly is yet to present her song, but it is known that it is called ‘Pich.’

Eurovision 2019 winner was Duncan Lawrence from the Netherlands and the winner of the National Selections will gain the chance to represent the country in Rotterdam.
