About Donbas conflict 

At least two Ukrainian military men deceased in Donbas combat area this week. The most recent attack that claimed the life of a Ukrainian trooper took place on Thursday, February 27.

All the entry-exit checkpoints in Donbas will switch to the spring working mode since March 1. The Joint Forces Operation HQ reported that on February 24, referring to the decision of the JFO commanding officer - as posted on Facebook. The entry-exit procedures and respective control measures will be conducted daily since 7 a.m. till 6.30 p.m.

Ukraine will introduce additional sanitary security measures due to the risk of the spread of coronavirus on the border with the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas. Darka Olifer, the press secretary of Leonid Kuchma, the second president of Ukraine and representative of Ukraine in the Minsk contact group reported that.

About coronavirus 

A Ukrainian has recovered from the Chinese coronavirus. The woman is one of the passengers of Diamond Princess cruise ship, which is now under a quarantine in Japan. The lady was treated at a hospital, and then transferred to a hotel.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's Interior Ministry showed the press a helicopter that they plan to use to transport those possibly infected with the virus. It has a sanitizing shower, biochemical protection suits and an isolation cell onboard.  It appeared that the Mi-8 helicopter was used during the UN peacekeeping  operations. And now, Ukraine's State Emergency Service will be able to use it. The helicopter can host a flight crew, several medics and up to six potential patients.

Seven hospitals have been chosen in Kyiv for the hospitalization of those who could be carrying coronavirus. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said this. “People travel in Europe, and we cannot guarantee that there will be no patients in Kyiv,” he explained.

The horrifying march of the disease carries on. First cases have been observed and confirmed in Switerland, Belarus, Lithuania and the Netherlands. Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Secretary Oleksiy Danilov added that the virus could not bypass Ukraine, and thus, single cases may be reported in this country, too.

About Crimea

It was reported that Zelensky would sign a decree on the Day of Resistance against Occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol. Resistance Day will be celebrated annually on February 26.

Later Zelensky also announced that Ukraine and Turkey agreed to build 500 apartments for Crimean IDPs.

On Friday, U.S. Secretary of the State Mike Pompeo wrote a post on the sixth anniversary of Crimea's annexation by Russia. He stated that U.S. would never accept Russia's claims for sovereignty over the Ukrainian Crimea. In response to that, Russian ambassadors invite American diplomats to visit annexed Crimea.

On February 25, Secretary of the National and Security Council Oleksiy Danilov stated that Ukraine could not supply water to occupied Crimea from a political point of view.

About self-incineration incident at President's Office

On February 26, a man set himself on fire during the protest against consequences of the medical reform; the event took place next to the building of Presidential Office in Kyiv. Other participants in the meeting rushed to put out the fire on his clothes. They rendered first medical aid, and the protester was able to get up.

A man who set himself on fire was hospitalized in severe condition. The doctor of Kyiv City Hospital No. 2 Andrii Zhorniv said that about 30% of the victim’s body surface was burned and he required a skin graft.

Later, Spokesperson of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, Yulia Mendel stated that he was agitated by a man who set himself on fire under the walls of the President's Office. According to his press secretary, employees of the department of appeals of citizens have already gone to visit self-arsonist. They will try to find out what kind of problematic issues prompted the victim to such an act.

About Handziuk

Bulgaria court allowed extradition to Ukraine of Oleksiy Levin, the suspect in organization of Kateryna Handziuk’s murder. However, lawyers of Levin are going to appeal this decision.

Meanwhile, law enforcers conducted ten searches among the defendants in the case of Kateryna Hanzdiuk. The media assume that Ihor Pavlovsky, the ex-assistant to a member of the Ukrainian parliament could belong to the group of attackers. 

About sports

Ukraine triumphed in the mixed relay race at Belarusian stage of European Championship. Ukrainian biathlon squad showed the best speed among all participants.

Denys Berinchyk successfully defended his WBO International lightweight title. The Ukrainian fighter outboxed his opponent from Argentina and secured a unanimous decision in his homeland.

Shakhtar Donetsk FC played in a rematch against S.L. Benfica in the Europa League 1/16 final. The teams showed a dramatic match that ended in a draw. As a result, the Miners were able to proceed further in the tournament.
